Reading Tutor Volunteer

Have fun and make positive impacts on the lives of children by joining Making Connections! As a tutor, your interest and encouragement are keys to motivating these students to learn.  We are looking for high school students and adults who have an interest in helping kids, have a background in education and/or just want to help some deserving individuals with special needs.  We always have a certified teacher at every session!  We ask you to make a commitment of tutoring a 40-minute session for at least a season. Our goal is to match you with the same student from week to week. We certainly understand if you are unable to tutor occasionally. High school students will receive community-learning credit.  Making Connections tutoring sessions are held at the DSA of NWI office at 2906 Highway Avenue in Highland, IN.  Each session is 40 minutes of one-on-one tutoring.

Making Connections Reading Program starts with sight word recognition and continues to develop fluency and comprehension.  The students work with leveled readers and the Natalie Hale Special Reads for Special Needs program.  This program also incorporates games and IPAD apps.
